Ethics Commissioner re-opens investigation into Minister Boissonnault

Canada’s Ethics Commissioner is re-opening his probe into Randy Boissonnault, Trudeau’s lone minister from Alberta. Leaked text messages from the Minister’s former company appear to reveal that Boissonnault continued to direct his businesses while sitting in Cabinet. This would be a blatant violation of Canada’s ethics laws.

Boissonnault claims that the “Randy” mentioned in company text messages was not referring to him, despite his former business partner confirming that Boissonnault was the only Randy at the company. This same business partner admitted to lying to reporters who had questions about the mysterious “Randy”, and now preposterously claims that the nine times he mentioned “Randy” in a series of text messages were all the result of an autocorrect.

It gets worse for Boissonnault, as last week it was revealed that his former company, Global Health Imports, received a contract from Elections Canada—a federal government agency—while he sat in Cabinet. This is yet another clear violation of Canada’s ethics laws.

The issues surrounding Boissonnault add to the cloud of corruption surrounding Global Health Imports. It is embroiled in allegations of fraud and has already been ordered by Alberta courts to pay $7.8 million for ripping off its clients and suppliers. Until recently, Boissonnault held a 50% interest in this shady company.

Canadians have a right to know if Boissonnault broke the law. That is why Conservatives asked the Ethics Commissioner to examine the new text messages revealed last month. The Commissioner expressed his “concern” and decided to re-open his probe into the Minister.

Conservatives have also passed a motion ordering Boissonnault to testify before Committee in the fall. He has a lot to answer for.
